Measured, not feared

Scientific Vastu Consultant in Bangalore

Vastu that says plainly what is measured from true north, what is traditional guidance and what is interpretation, with corrections that need no demolition and no products.

Scientific Vastu, as we practise it at Vardhini Vastu, rests on one discipline: in every visit and every report we say clearly which statements are measured, which come from traditional guidance, and which are our interpretation. A direction in degrees from true north is a measurement. A classical recommendation about where a kitchen belongs is traditional guidance. A judgement about how much a particular placement matters in your home is interpretation. Keeping these three apart is what makes advice checkable.

This page sets out how Raghavendra Hebbur works in Bangalore: the VIDS™ 16-zone method, the instruments we carry and their honest status, what can and cannot be verified, the classical scholarship behind the work, corrections without demolition, the written report, the fees, and a checklist you can use to judge any consultant, including us.

What scientific Vastu means: measured, traditional, interpretive

Most disagreements about Vastu come from mixing three different kinds of statement. We separate them on site and in writing, so you always know what you are being told.

  • Measured: the orientation of your plot and building in degrees from true north, the boundaries of each of the 16 zones on your plan, the rooms that fall in each zone, where morning and afternoon sun enters, and whether air can move through a room. Anyone with the right tools can repeat these readings.
  • Traditional guidance: recommendations handed down through classical texts and practice, such as a preference for the kitchen in the south east or an open, light north east. We report these faithfully and say that they are traditional, not proven by laboratory science.
  • Interpretive: our professional judgement about which observations matter most for your household and which corrections are worth the effort. This is experience, and we label it as such.

A consultant who presents tradition as hard science, or presents personal opinion as a classical rule, is not being scientific. Our Vastu methodology page explains the full process step by step.

The VIDS™ 16-zone method

VIDS™ is the method Raghavendra Hebbur developed for degree-accurate assessment. The plan of your home or office is divided into 16 directional zones of about 22.5 degrees each, centred on the true geometric centre of the built area. North, north north east, north east, east north east and so on round the compass each get their own slice, instead of the eight broad directions many people work with.

Why 16 and not 8? Because a room can sit in north east on a rough eight-way reading and in east north east on a finer one, and classical guidance for those two zones differs. Finer zones reduce guesswork. They do not make tradition more scientific, but they make the reading itself precise and repeatable. Our guide to the 16 Vastu zones explained describes what each zone is traditionally associated with.

How we measure degrees from true north

Every zone boundary depends on one number: the angle between your building and true north. Getting it wrong by ten degrees can push a room into the next zone, so we treat this step as the foundation of the whole assessment.

  • We take compass readings at several points inside and outside the property, away from steel grilles, lift shafts, speakers, magnets and electrical panels, because all of these disturb a phone or hand compass.
  • We discard readings that disagree and work from the consistent ones.
  • A compass points to magnetic north, not true north. The difference is the magnetic declination, which changes with place and year. We look up the current value for your location with the NOAA magnetic declination calculator and correct for it.
  • We cross-check against the plan, the road grid and, where useful, satellite imagery, then draw the 16 zones on your plan.

If you want to try a first reading yourself before booking, our guide on how to check direction for Vastu walks through it.

Sunlight and ventilation in Bangalore

Light and air are the parts of Vastu that ordinary physics supports most directly. Bangalore sits at about 13 degrees north latitude. For most of the year the noon sun is to the south, but roughly from late April to mid August it passes overhead and sits slightly to the north at noon. East facing openings receive gentle morning light; west facing openings receive the hot afternoon sun, which heats walls and rooms well into the evening.

Cross ventilation needs openings on opposite or adjacent walls, so that air has a path in and a path out. On site we note which rooms get morning light, which overheat in the afternoon, and which have only one opening. These are measured observations, and they often explain why a room feels stuffy or unused better than any rule does. Our article on the sun path and Vastu in Bangalore goes into seasonal detail.

Instruments we use and their honest status

We carry two kinds of instrument, and we describe them differently because they have different standing.

  • Measuring tools: magnetic compass, digital compass, laser distance meter and measuring tape, plus your architectural plan. Their readings are physical measurements that anyone can repeat.
  • Radiesthesia tools: the Lecher Antenna and the Universal Aura Scanner (UAS) by Geo Engineering. Raghavendra Hebbur is a Lecher Antenna practitioner and a Certified Geo Master. These are dowsing type tools used in the Geo Vastu tradition. They are not accepted by mainstream science, and their results are practitioner readings, not laboratory measurements.

We use the second group only as one layer of an on-site visit, we label its findings as interpretive, and we never use it to sell anything or to frighten anyone. Our geopathic stress audit page explains how that survey works and what it can and cannot tell you.

What can be verified, and what cannot

Being honest about limits is part of a scientific approach. Here is how we draw the line.

Can be verified:

  • The direction of the plot, the main door and each room in degrees.
  • Which of the 16 zones each room, toilet, staircase or water tank falls in.
  • How much direct sunlight a room receives and at what time of day.
  • Whether a room has cross ventilation, and whether the layout matches how the household actually uses it.

Cannot be verified by us or anyone else:

  • That a particular zone or placement will change your income, marriage, health or career.
  • That a radiesthesia reading reflects a physical force recognised by science.
  • That any product, symbol or device will alter the effects of a layout.

Layout can make a home brighter, cooler, easier to move through and better suited to the people in it. That is a real and worthwhile goal. Promises beyond it are not something we make.

Classical scholarship: the Aparajitaprccha

The traditional guidance in our reports is not taken from internet lists. Raghavendra Hebbur is working on a translation of the Aparajitaprccha, a 12th century Sanskrit treatise on architecture in the Vishvakarma tradition that discusses site selection, orientation, proportion and the arrangement of buildings.

Studying a primary text closely has a practical benefit: it shows how much popular Vastu advice is later simplification, and how often the classical texts are concerned with proportion, light and use rather than fear. When we cite tradition in your report, we describe it in general terms and say where it comes from. We do not invent verses or claim the texts say more than they do.

Corrections without demolition

We do not ask clients to break walls. Every recommendation in a standard report uses changes you can make in an existing home or office:

  • Changing which room is used for what, such as moving a study into a better lit zone.
  • Repositioning beds, desks, the cooking range or storage.
  • Colour, lighting and simple screening.
  • Decluttering zones that the tradition prefers to keep open and light.

If something genuinely needs construction, for example a new opening for ventilation, we say so plainly and leave structural decisions to your architect or engineer. Our article on zero-demolition Vastu corrections gives examples.

No products, no commissions

We sell no pyramids, yantras, crystals, strips, copper wires or protective devices, and we take no commission from builders, interior firms or shops. Our only income from your consultation is the published fee. This matters for honesty: a consultant who earns from remedies has a reason to find problems. We have none.

Your written report and how to read it

Within 48 hours of the visit you receive a written report. It contains your plan with the true north line and the 16 zones drawn on it, a room by room table, and a short list of prioritised corrections.

Each finding carries a label. What we measure marks direction, zone, light and ventilation facts. Traditional guidance marks classical recommendations. Our view marks interpretation and priority. Read the measured items first, then decide how much weight you want to give the traditional ones. You can see the format on our sample Vastu report page.

Fees for a scientific Vastu consultation

Fees are published and fixed by property type, not by how worried you seem:

  • Online consultation, anywhere: ₹5,000
  • Bangalore apartment or row house: ₹15,000
  • Bangalore villa or independent house: ₹25,000
  • Outstation apartment: ₹21,000 plus travel
  • Outstation villa: ₹30,000 plus travel
  • Commercial or industrial: from ₹51,000
  • Pre-purchase plot report: ₹5,000

A home visit in Bangalore typically takes two to four hours. Full details are on the Vastu consultation fees page.

Scientific or fear-based? A checklist

Use these questions to judge any consultant, including us:

  • Do they measure direction on site and correct for magnetic declination, or eyeball it?
  • Do they show you the 16 zones drawn on your actual plan?
  • Do they tell you which advice is tradition and which is measurement?
  • Do they avoid promising health, wealth or marriage outcomes?
  • Do they recommend changes without demolition wherever possible?
  • Do they sell products or take commissions?
  • Are their fees published before the visit?
  • Do they give you a written report you can check later?
  • Do they use words like dosha, curse or danger to push urgency?

A scientific approach should leave you calmer and better informed, with a clear list of practical steps. If a consultation leaves you anxious and holding a shopping list, something has gone wrong. Our editorial standards set out the rules we hold ourselves to in writing.

When other professionals come first

Vastu advice never overrides safety or law. Electrical faults belong with a licensed electrician, cracks and damp with a structural engineer, approvals with your architect and the authorities, and health concerns with a doctor. Where our observations touch any of these, we say so in the report and recommend the right professional.

What an online Vastu assessment covers

An online assessment uses traditional Vastu analysis only. We draw the 16-zone map from the centre of your plan, using compass readings you take with us on a video call, and lay the 3×3 grid over the same plan: the nine-square division with the Brahmasthan at the centre. Every finding comes from these two methods, such as which zone holds each door, room, kitchen, toilet and water point, and how the nine squares and the centre are used.

Geopathic stress readings with the Lecher Antenna and the Universal Aura Scanner are not part of an online assessment, because they need us physically on site. If your online report suggests a closer look is worthwhile, an on-site visit can follow.

Frequently asked questions.

Is Vastu proven by science?

No. Directions, light and ventilation can be measured, and good light and air are well supported. The traditional associations of each zone are classical guidance, not laboratory science, and we label them that way.

What makes your approach scientific?

We measure direction in degrees from true north, draw 16 zones on your plan, and label every finding as measured, traditional or interpretive, so you can check what we say.

Will you ask me to demolish anything?

No. Corrections use room use, placement, colour, lighting and decluttering. If something truly needs construction, we say so plainly and refer it to your architect.

Do you sell remedies or products?

No. We sell no products and take no commissions. You pay only the published consultation fee.
