Residential Vastu

Residential Vastu Consultant in Bangalore

Every kind of home, one measured method. Apartments, villas, independent houses, plots, new builds and renovations, assessed with the VIDS 16-zone method and corrected without breaking a wall.

Residential Vastu is the part of our work that touches daily life most directly. It is about the home you wake up in, the kitchen you cook in and the room your children study in. At Vardhini Vastu we assess every kind of home with the same measured method, from a two-bedroom flat in Whitefield to an independent house on a 40 by 60 site in Yelahanka.

This page is the starting point. It explains how we approach residential Vastu, what changes from one type of home to another, and where to read more about the property you have. Every recommendation we give is designed to work without breaking a wall.

What residential Vastu covers

A home is read in layers. First the plot and its orientation, then the building on it, then the rooms, and finally what sits inside each room. Most generic advice stops at the eight directions. We work with 16 zones, each about 22.5 degrees wide, measured from true north on site.

The questions we answer for a home are practical ones:

  • Where the main entrance sits, and whether it falls in a supportive part of its wall
  • Which zones hold the kitchen, bedrooms, toilets and the puja space
  • Whether the centre of the home is open or blocked
  • Where water is stored, both underground and overhead
  • Where the heavy furniture, wardrobes and storage are placed

One method for every type of home

The method stays the same whatever you live in. What changes is how much of the property we can actually influence. In an apartment you control the inside of your flat, not the building. In an independent house you control the plot, the compound, the gate and every floor. We set realistic expectations for each.

Here is how the main home types differ:

  • Apartments and flats: entrance, kitchen, bedrooms and toilets inside the unit. The tower orientation is fixed, so we work within it.
  • Villas: the plot, the landscape, the stair and both floors, usually inside a gated community with fixed site boundaries.
  • Independent houses: the full picture, including the compound wall, gate, sump, overhead tank and terrace.
  • Plots: shape, slope, road position and the facing direction, checked before you buy or build.

Reading the facing of your home

Families often ask whether an east-facing or north-facing home is better. The honest answer is that every facing can work well. What matters far more is where on that wall the entrance sits, and how the rooms behind it are arranged.

We have written a separate guide for each direction: east-facing, north-facing, south-facing and west-facing homes. Each shows which entrance positions are supportive and which need care.

New homes, existing homes and renovations

The best time for Vastu is before construction, when moving a room costs only a line on a drawing. For a new build we review the architect plan and mark changes before work starts.

For an existing home, the goal is different. We do not ask you to demolish anything. Corrections use placement, colour, lighting and the way rooms are used.

A renovation sits in between. Walls are already moving, so it is the cheapest chance to fix the bigger things such as the kitchen position or an entrance a few feet off.

Buying in a builder project

Many of our clients in Bangalore buy in projects by large developers. The tower orientation and unit layouts are already decided, but you still choose which unit to buy. That choice matters.

Our builder project review compares the units on offer from the brochure plans and tells you which ones carry fewer compromises. It costs far less to choose well than to correct later.

How a residential Vastu visit works

Every assessment follows the same steps, whether it is a flat or a large house:

  • You share the floor plan and a few photographs on WhatsApp
  • We visit, take compass readings at several points away from steel and wiring, and check the plan against what was actually built
  • We map the home onto the 16 zones with true north marked in degrees
  • You receive a written report within 48 hours, with each issue ranked by priority and a correction that needs no demolition

Magnetic north and true north are not the same. The difference in Bangalore is small, but we still correct for it using the NOAA magnetic declination calculator so that every zone boundary is placed accurately.

What we will not ask you to do

We do not sell pyramids, crystals, yantras or other products. We do not ask for walls to be broken. We do not use fear to sell a second visit.

If a problem genuinely cannot be fixed without construction, we will say so plainly and explain what the trade-off is. In most homes, though, careful placement and better use of rooms deal with the main issues.

Common residential Vastu issues we see

A few problems come up again and again in Bangalore homes:

  • A toilet in the north-east corner of the flat, which is common in compact apartment layouts
  • A kitchen in the north-east or the centre rather than the south-east
  • A cluttered or closed centre, often because of a dining wall or storage unit
  • A master bedroom in the north-east instead of the south-west
  • Underground sumps placed wherever the plumber found it convenient

Each of these has a practical correction. A toilet in the north-east, for example, is handled by keeping it closed and dry, adjusting colours and moving heavy storage elsewhere, not by rebuilding the bathroom.

Areas we cover in Bangalore

We visit homes across the city, including Whitefield, Sarjapur Road, Hebbal, Yelahanka, Jayanagar and North Bangalore. For homes outside the city, an online consultation works well when you can share a clear plan and a compass reading. An online assessment uses traditional Vastu only, the 16-zone map and the 3×3 grid drawn on your plan; geopathic stress readings need a site visit.

Rented homes and short stays

You do not need to own a home for Vastu to be useful. Tenants usually cannot move a kitchen or a door, but they can choose which room to sleep in, where the desk goes and how the centre of the home is used. Those choices are free and often make a noticeable difference.

If you are choosing between two rental flats, a quick online review of both plans before you sign is often the most useful thing we can do. Read more in our guide to Vastu for rental homes.

Homes for joint families

Joint family homes bring their own questions. Who takes the south-west bedroom when there are two senior couples? Where does the puja room go when the north-east is already a staircase? We look at how the family actually lives before making suggestions, because a plan that looks right on paper can still create friction if it ignores daily routines.

In larger homes we often suggest assigning rooms by role: the head of the household in the south-west, younger couples in the south or west, children and students in the west or east, and guests in the north-west.

What a good report looks like

A report you cannot act on is not worth much. Every residential Vastu report we write lists the issues in order of priority, explains each one in plain language and gives a correction you can carry out yourself or with a carpenter or painter.

We separate what we measured from what tradition recommends, so you always know which advice rests on a reading and which rests on the classical texts. You can see the format in our sample Vastu report.

How long before you notice a difference

We do not promise dates. Some families tell us the home feels calmer within weeks, often because the clutter has gone and the light has improved. Other changes take longer to show. What we can promise is that every correction is reversible, low cost and explained, so nothing is done on faith alone.

Starting with residential Vastu

The simplest way to begin is to send your floor plan on WhatsApp with a note on the type of home and the area. We will reply with the fee, the next available date and whether an online review would be enough for your situation. Many families start with an online check and book a visit only if the plan raises questions that need a site reading.
